Climate friendly travel
By train and without traffic jams comfortably to Mettlach.
The landmark of the Saarland looks like a drawn "U" from the air. Yet the amazed viewer of the Saar Loop tends to say an appreciative "Aaaah"! And what's more, the amazing river bend is not the only dream loop in the region.
By train to Mettlach: Plan arrival
If you have as many varied hiking trails as the Saarland has to offer, you also have to show imagination when it comes to naming them: For this reason, you can now also walk "Traumschleifchen" in the Saarland, the walking version of a real Traumschleifen hike, so to speak. These short variants include, for example, the "Weiskircher Wildkatzenpfad" (4.7 km) or the garden wellness loop at the Losheim reservoir with a length of 6 kilometers.
For passionate marchers, however, the official "most beautiful German long-distance hiking trail", the Saar-Hunsrück Climb, is probably more responsible. As a premium hiking trail, it leads 410 kilometers through romantic stream valleys, mysterious forests and colorful orchards, all in Germany's southwest. And it offers beautiful additional hikes, just those already mentioned dream loops. Popular destinations are of course also the UNESCO Biosphere Reserve Bliesgau or the Saarschleife treetop path. Those who conquer this 800-meter-long and 23-meter-high path above the treetops of beech, oak and Douglas fir trees are rewarded with the most spectacular view imaginable in the Saarland: it not only opens up above the surreal-looking Saarschleife, but in good weather reaches as far as the green hills of the Saar-Hunsrück Nature Park and even further to the Vosges Mountains. We guaranteed: You want to have seen that!
