Samba Carnival, Maritime Week or the KulturSommer Summarum - Bremen will once again host some outstanding cultural events this summer. We present eight particularly worthwhile ones here.

La Strada

Elaborate staging and breathtaking artistry - This year again the street festival will surprise with unusual performances. Since the first edition in 1994, the festival has grown steadily. In the meantime, up to 100,000 spectators are enthralled by the fascinating performances. Charming: at many performances it can happen to you to be included as part of the show. LA STRADA will take place this year from June 9 to 12, the main venue will be the ramparts.

Located directly on the WeserThe building already used by Theater Bremen in the years 2008 to 2010 Stage played again since 2021. More than 25 events in the unique atmosphere of a venue located directly on the waterfront are on the 2022 schedule from July 1 to 24. For the opening Oleta Adams will perform with the Bremen Philharmonic Orchestra and the joint program "Rhythm of Life 2022". But also otherwise you can experience this summer again many national and international greats such as Jamie Cullum, Herbie Hancock, Schiller or Beatrice Egli. During the classical music week, the operas "La Traviata", "Nabucco" and "The Magic Flute", among others, can be seen and heard.

Samba carnival

Imaginative costumes, rousing rhythms and great choreographies - at the Bremen Samba Carnival the Hanseatic city shows itself unaccustomedly South American. The highlight is the big parade through the Bremen quarter. This year, around 100 samba groups from all over Germany and many other European countries dance and drum their way through a line of up to 40,000 spectators under the motto "From Shadow to Light. Traditionally, the carnival actually takes place in February, but this year it is to be moved to the summer due to the Corona pandemic. The planned date of the event is July 8-10, 2022.

Every summer the banks of the Weser shine on Bremen's Osterdeich for five days in bright colors and groovy live music blows across the water. Also this year there is on the Breminale From July 13 to 17, 2022, there will once again be much to discover. Street artists will show their skills, and a total of over 100 bands will perform on various stages. The spectrum ranges from top acts from the pop and rock scene to bass-heavy dance sounds to more quiet singer-songwriter performances. Culinary you get all kinds of regional dishes from organic farming. The "Deichbankett" (dike banquet) on Breminale Sunday is worthwhile - there you can look forward to a 3-course menu made from regional organic products at a table that seats over 250 people.

Music festival

When at different venues around the specially illuminated market place "Eine große Nachtmusik" resounds, it is again so far: The Music festival Bremen enchants listeners with classical sounds and a very special atmosphere in downtown Bremen and at over 25 venues throughout the northwest. From August 20 to September 10, 2022, numerous musical highlights are on the program, ranging from classical to jazz and world music to experimental sounds. The central venues in Bremen are the concert hall "Die Glocke" and the BLG Forum Überseestadt. Around a third of the program takes place in selected venues in the region (Oldenburg, Jever, Löningen, Papenburg, Verden).

Maritime Events: Maritime Week & German Shipping Day

Another event highlightt in Bremen is the Maritime week For one week, the Hanseatic city will celebrate its connection with the water with water sports presentations, thematic city tours, lectures and many other attractions. Highlights include the arrival of the skippers at the opening, a lantern ride by around 120 ships followed by fireworks on the Weser, and the Dragon Boat Cup. In addition, Bremen's science community will provide you with interesting background knowledge on a research mile including a lecture program and exciting experiments.

"Sustainable Shipping: Together, Clear, Clean!" is the motto of this year's German Shipping Daywhich takes place from September 29 to October 3 in Bremen and Bremerhaven. During ship visits, at exhibitions and specialist events, you will have the opportunity to get to know shipping in all its facets and its importance. A special focus will be on global challenges such as climate change, digitalization or growing security demands.

CultureSummer Summarum

Rather in the open air: The corona-induced relocation of numerous art and cultural events outside has developed into a real crowd-pleaser. Under the motto "Art needs to be out in the fresh air," this year marks the third time the Bremen Summer of Culture Summarum open air. You can expect a colorful mix of theater, music - with and without singing, in an ensemble or as a solo - acrobatics, literature readings, discourses, puppet theater, dance and clowning. The venues include Bremen's Bürgerpark, the Licht- und Luftbad, the Quartiersplatz Neustadt, the Galerie am Schwarzenmeer and Bremen's Marktplatz.
