Temperatures are rising, numbers are falling and Germany is being woken from its Corona slumber. Although the Corona measures in place since November 2 have been extended until June 30, 2021, many German states are initiating opening steps thanks to low incidence levels.

Incidence over 100 - Federal emergency brake.:
If the incidence value of a region is above 100 for three consecutive days, the emergency brake is applied. Then the Regulations that applied until March 7, in force again. A household may meet a maximum of one other person and there is a nightly Curfew from 22- 5 o'clock. In addition, the retail trade must remain closed, but there are now quite a few exceptions such as: Garden markets, bookstores and opticians. Since May 9, there are exemptions for vaccinated and recovered people.

In regions with an incidence below 100, private meetings of up to five people from two households are allowed. If the incidence is below 35, there may be a total of three households with a maximum of 10 people. This does not apply if only vaccinated and recovered persons meet. Children up to 14 years of age are no longer counted and couples are considered one household. It is advised to keep the number of participating households as small as possible.

At low incidence levels, restaurants and cafés (outside AND inside) are allowed to open. When infection levels are high, all catering establishments as well as clubs, discotheques, pubs and similar establishments remain closed. The decision here is up to the states. Delivery and collection of food for consumption at home is still possible.

If the 7-day incidence is stable below 100, museums, galleries, botanical gardens and zoos may be visited with appointment booking. If the incidence is below 50, they are allowed to reopen regularly. If the incidence is below 50 for more than 14 days, theaters, cinemas, opera houses and concert halls may also reopen. Church services are still permitted, subject to hygiene regulations.

Trade & Services:
If the 7-day incidence is below 50, retail can open. If the incidence is above 50, click & meet (appointment shopping) is possible. The states decide individually whether it may be offered. Hair salons and body-related services are possible with reservation and using a medical mask.

Sports & Wellness:
The federal states are allowed to design these regulations individually. Gyms and swimming pools are allowed to reopen when the incidence is low. If the incidence is above 50, individual sports with a maximum of five people from two households and outdoor group sports with up to 20 children under 14 are permitted. Professional sports events may continue to be held only without spectators.

Travel and accommodation:
Private travel, day trips and visits to relatives are to be dispensed with. Hotels and guesthouses shall continue to be prohibited from accepting tourists. Overnight stays within the country will only apply for necessary and explicitly non-tourist purposes.

Travel from abroad:

All entrants are subject to a Quarantine and Coronatest obligation. Entrants from a Risk area are obliged to undergo a ten-day quarantine, from which, however, they can be "cleared" after five days at the earliest. Before entering the country, they are also obliged to have the digital travel registration to be filled in and presented upon entry, if necessary.

A strict 14-day quarantine obligation applies to those entering the country from a virus variant area. Special regulations apply to vaccinated and recovered persons.
People who By plane must present a negative coronary test at the airport of departure that is not older than 48 hours. This also applies to those entering from non-risk areas. In addition, a digital travel declaration must be completed, which must also be presented at check-in. 

These regulations remain unchanged:

  • For the whole of Germany, the previously known Distance and hygiene rules. So continue to keep at least 1.50 meters away from others, plus regular hand washing and disinfection.
  • The nationwide mask requirement in retail stores and on local and long-distance public transportation remains in effect. The wearing of medical masks is mandatory. Surgical masks, FFP2 masks or also KN95/N95 masks are considered medical masks.
