A seven-kilometer-long beach of the finest Baltic Sea sand, clean water shimmering in many shades of blue and thousands of beach chairs - you will find one of the most famous beaches in Germany in Ostholstein on the Bay of Lübeck..

Timmendorfer beach

The small Baltic seaside resort with its population of just over 430 is located 15 kilometers north of Lübeck directly on the Baltic coast. Neighboring towns are Scharbeutz to the north, Ratekau to the south and west, and Travemünde to the east.

Niendorf

The district of the municipality of Timmendorfer Strand is located about 3.5 kilometers east of the center of Timmendorfer Strand. The tranquil Baltic Sea spa is popular with families with children.

Hemmelsdorf

The village of 600 inhabitants is located on the west shore of Hemmelsdorfer See. Besides a fish smokehouse, there is a small harbor for sailing and rowing boats.

See and be seen - Timmendorfer Strand

The low tidal range and a pleasant salty sea climate provide the best conditions for a diverse beach landscape. Highlights in and around the water include three piers, spa and beach park and various works of art on the promenade. Textile-free area, dog beach, surf schools, beach volleyball courts and in summer the offer of the Sport-StrandKlub - the choice of different beach sections and leisure activities is large. Behind the beach stretches a flat but wide dune landscape. In addition, green forests, yellow rapeseed fields in May, long avenues and some worth seeing villas characterize the landscape around Timmendorfer Strand.

Its outstanding reputation as a fashionable seaside resort owes the municipality Timmendorfer beach especially the magnificent promenade. Around the fountain of Timmendorfer Platz, it's a lot about seeing and being seen. Outstanding hotels, good restaurants, upscale boutiques and the finest events give the place its very own, exclusive lifestyle. If you want to experience a Baltic seaside vacation with a difference, this is the place for you.

Nice and quiet - Niendorf

Far less bustling, but nice and quiet in the neighboring village Niendorf too. The beach here is narrower than in Timmendorfer Strand, but the beach chairs are not as close together. But you'll also find surfing and diving schools, volleyball courts, a variety of events, and plenty of space to romp and relax.

The true treasure of Niendorf is the small, fjord-like harbor. Here you can buy freshly caught fish at colorful fish market stalls, purchase handmade souvenirs or enjoy the view of quaint fishing boats and gleaming white luxury yachts in one of the small cafés. The atmosphere of the smallest active fishing port on the Baltic coast changes depending on the time of day - busy and lively at market times, wonderfully quiet and bathed in soft light in the evening hours.

Detour to Hemmelsdorf

Only about 600 inhabitants counts the small village Hemmelsdorf. A detour is worthwhile, however, just for the huge inland lake of the same name. The Aalbeek lowland nature reserve stretches along the north shore. From the viewing platform of the 20-meter-high Hermann Löns Tower, you can enjoy a great view of the picturesque five-kilometer-long lake and the reed- and tree-covered shore area. In the village you will find a restaurant - with its own smokehouse - and an ice cream parlor. You can also rent pedal boats here. The most beautiful swimming spot is a little further south in Offendorf.
