St. Peter-Ording: Plenty of space for sports by the sea

Around twelve kilometers long and up to two kilometers wide: Nowhere on Germany's mainland coasts is there more space for beach vacationers - and hardly any other beach offers so many different sports options.

In summer there is really something going on here. For the many bathers, surfers or beach walkers in St. Peter-Ording, however, it is never crowded, at the twelve-kilometer-long white beach everyone finds his place. Depending on the water level (the tides are very noticeable here), it can be quite a distance from the town to the seashore; wooden walkways lead across the sandy area, which can be up to two kilometers wide. The mega-beach is characterized by several pile dwellings, which have become landmarks of the region - for more than 100 years wooden huts have been standing here on high stilts made of larch wood. They are not used for the Baywatch, but partly as a restaurant, where you can enjoy a hearty meal with a top view of the North Sea. Beforehand, you might have enjoyed one of the many sports activities, such as surfing, kite surfing or stand-up paddling - some people also like to sail across the beach in beach gliders. Oh yes: beach chairs, beach volleyball and children's playgrounds, nudist areas, DLRG watch and dog beach are of course also here.

Good connection by train: From Hamburg's main station to St. Peter-Ording station, the train takes about three hours - from there it's about a 15-minute walk to the large pier.

The special tip: The pile dwelling restaurant "Strandperle" from the ARD series "Gegen den Wind" is actually called "Silbermöwe" and is located in the northern beach area - delicious fish rolls!
