Winter hiking in Hesse: This will be white!
Fields and trees bathed in white glisten in the sun, it's crisp cold and the snow crunches pleasantly under ...
Learn moreDoes high culture always belong in the concert hall? The Kultursommer Nordhessen has been proving the opposite for over 30 years: for three months, it enchants the region with a colourful program - including concerts, theater performances, readings and cabaret - at unusual venues.
Do you know Wilhelmsthal Castle near Kassel? It is a real rococo beauty and is considered one of the most beautiful of its kind. A visit is always a good idea - but especially on one day in May: then you can experience a feast for all the senses at the opening festival of the Kultursommer Nordhessen. The event is entitled "Aufgespielt" and combines cabaret, music and a picnic to create an unforgettable experience. After this prelude, the festival season begins, and that means: piano concerts on a folding chair in the middle of the meadows and forests of the GrimmHeimat NordHessen. Rock music on the recorder. Breakdancing to Bach's Goldberg Variations. We could go on and on, but perhaps it's best to choose your own personal highlight from the top-class and original program. One thing is certain: Touching and surprising cultural experiences await you at over 50 different venues - from industrial halls to castles and parks to historic vaults.
The festival also owes its success to its firm roots in the region. Organizers, companies, restaurants, churches, associations and many other partners pull together. They have turned the initial idea into a cultural network and a genuine North Hessian institution. However, this also means that if you want to get your hands on tickets, you shouldn't wait too long! Some highlights, such as the A Capella Night in front of Fritzlar Cathedral, already have cult status and sell out quickly. The sunrise concerts on the Dörnberg are also unforgettable experiences. However, you have to be a real early riser and set off at around four o'clock in the morning with a blanket and folding chair - but you will be rewarded with classical sounds in a mystical natural setting. If you're a literature fan and enjoy going to readings, you can already look forward to two big names in 2024: the well-known playwright Ferdinand von Schirach will be performing his story "Rain" about love, loss and human dignity as a monologue himself. And ChrisTine Urspruch, together with sound artist Stefan Weinzierl, will bring the classic Alice in Wonderland back to life in Kassel's Christuskirche.
Director Maren Matthes and her team have not only been able to attract big names and celebrated stars to the festival, up-and-coming artists and regional talents also make their grand entrance as part of the festival: youth orchestras and young soloists from all over the world showcase their skills; artists from the region perform in the City Lights series in Kassel. Soul, new soul, pop and rock are on the program - if you like to shake a leg, you've come to the right place. The new event series "Life" promises even more special moments with a mixture of classical music, DJs and a party atmosphere.
