Bizarre rocks next to colorful half-timbered houses - a combination that is popular in Franconian Switzerland. Pottenstein in particular, with its charming old town and many hiking routes, is a popular destination.

By train to Pottenstein: Plan arrival

It may not be on everyone's mind yet: Pottenstein with its rustic castle is considered the cultural and tourist center of Franconian Switzerland. The reasons? The Devil's Cave for example, the largest walk-in stalactite cave in the entire region. Or the Franconian Switzerland Museum, whose greatest attractions are outside: it is the bizarre, remarkable rock formations outside the museum that are known throughout the area.

In general, the region is considered a varied hiker's paradise; especially the "Upper Püttlach Valley" is popular with connoisseurs. Fun fact for those with a wide range of interests: Pottenstein and the surrounding area is the region with the highest density of breweries in the world. We haven't counted the number of breweries, but the people of Pottenstein are proud of it and have come up with a nice offer to go with it: The "Bierquellenweg" brewery hike starts in Weiglathal at the Übelhack brewery and ends there, too, after you've visited three other breweries along the 18-kilometer route.
