He had no idea how right he was: "There are flowers everywhere for those who want to see them," the French painter Henri Matisse once said. At the Erfurt Federal Horticultural Show, you will have trouble not seeing any in the coming months. How beautiful!
The bare figures are impressive: 171 days of a sea of flowers are promised by the organizers of the Federal Horticultural Show, which takes place every two years and this time aims to showcase 430,000 m² of exhibition space in over 50 themed and show gardens at several venues at once. The BUGA will spread out on Erfurt's St. Peter's Square, around the baroque city fortress and in the egapark garden monument and promises: "Colorful fields of flowers, historical backdrops, bright colors, wonderful scents!" Not a bad plan that is being carried out here in the name of the rose.
In fact, however, the BUGA claims to be more than just a garden showcase and flower circus. In various theme weeks, the garden and all its aspects are approached in the most diverse ways. There will be a French week, a complex of events under the theme "Bee, Flower and Co", where, for example, you can learn about the complex buzzing universes on an educational bee trail. As part of the "Rose Week", there will be a garden reading with Ines Hommann entitled "Romantic Rose Stories over Several Centuries", and the National Natural Landscapes of Central Germany will also be presenting themselves in Erfurt. The young garden lover is probably rather addressed by the Thuringian state championship in poetry slam, which also takes place at the BUGA. And who the Romantic Week from July 5 to 11 is for is revealed by the motto of this theme week: "Thousands of flowers and the International Day of the Kiss". We are curious.
