Climate-friendly travel to Schwerin Castle
By train and without traffic jams comfortably to Schwerin.
In Schwerin, there is no way around the castle. It is prominently located on an island in the middle of the city and can be seen from everywhere - so let's go there and spend a day of amazement.
Six wings, eleven floorsThe castle has over 630 rooms and perhaps no one has ever counted the turrets and oriels: Schwerin Palace is a veritable synthesis of the arts. Built in its present form from 1845, it served as a residence for the dukes and grand dukes of Mecklenburg as early as the late 14th century, and is today considered one of the most important works of Romantic historicism in Europe - modeled on French Renaissance buildings such as Chambord Castle on the Loire. Today, the state parliament of Mecklenburg-Vorpommern has its seat here, and part of the complex serves as a museum. And what a museum it is!
You can spend hours stroll through the magnificent rooms and marvel. Valuable paintings, sculptures and historic furniture are presented on three floors, including a large porcelain collection, a newly inaugurated silver chamber and an extensive collection of princely hunting and state weapons. The baroque palace garden was also laid out according to the French model - and the regular palace festivals are world-class!
Good connection by train: From Schwerin's main train station (just under an hour by ICE from Hamburg), it's a 15-minute walk through the city to the castle.
