No end in sight: The Bavarian Forest National Park spreads all the way to the Czech border, covering an area of almost 25,000 hectares. It's clear that in such a primeval forest, not only rare plants but also hiking myths flourish.
First, a few questions: What longings do people associate with the forest? And what fears? At the Lusen National Park Center, a permanent exhibition entitled "Paths to Nature - A History of Forests and People" introduces visitors to the secrets of the Bavarian Forest National Park in a way that is as theoretical as it is exciting. And in doing so, it awakens the greatest desire to then actively engage oneself with the many opportunities that the Bavarian Forest offers its visitors.
First of all, of course, on the excellently developed hiking network. It is around 350 kilometers long and is divided into circular trails, long-distance trails and long-distance hiking trails - all perfectly marked and so clearly characterized that no one has to leave their personal comfort zone unintentionally. Our recommendation: the special nature experience trail in the forest play area near Spiegelau, where a barefoot trail, bird watching and making music with natural materials are part of the program. Experience nature in a playful way - an offer that is especially aimed at families. In addition to the hiking trails, the national park also has a 200-kilometer network of biking trails and, more recently, a modern digital scavenger hunt for the whole family: geocaching, the treasure hunt via GPS.
