By train and without traffic jams comfortably to Wittenberge.
The Elbe meanders for around 80 kilometers through the "Elbe-Brandenburg River Landscape" biosphere reserve in the northwest of the state - a top region for nature and culture lovers.

One of the most beautiful starting points for a (water) hike through the biosphere reserve is the Elbe town of Wittenberge. An impressive station from the Wilhelminian period welcomes the traveler, and one can easily spend many hours in this cozy town with its cozy cafes, restaurants and a nice shopping mile. Architecture fans will find exciting things to see from the Art Nouveau and Gropius quarters to the Old Oil Mill.
Wittenberg's sport boat harbor is then a good starting point for the water hike, for example by canoe, through a true river idyll. Motorized ships seldom sail there; there is hardly a region in Germany that can offer so much expanse and tranquility. Nowhere else do so many storks live as in the Elbtalaue. A nice stop along the way is the small harbor of the town of Lenzen with its enchanting historic town center. Caution: Canoeists should bring a little experience with them because of the relatively high flow speed of the Elbe, which allows longer daily distances.
The special tip: A cold day is spent pleasantly in the hot and iodine-rich thermal brine of the Kristall-Therme Bad Wilsnack.
Good connection by train: By ICE, Wittenberge is reached in about 45 minutes from Berlin, in just under an hour from Hamburg.
Flexible and practical: Those who want to spend their vacation in the largest inland biosphere reserve can leave their car at home if they want: The company Mobil vor Ort organizes for tours in the region either a bicycle rental, the transfer by car to nearby train stations or also minibus tours. Another offer: ARGE Prignitzbus provides so-called call buses in addition to the normal scheduled service if there is no scheduled bus 90 minutes before or after the desired departure time. The Ludwigslust-Parchim transport company also operates a similar service with the Rufbus. You only have to order it two hours before the scheduled departure time, and it will roll up. VLP's laudable motto: "Every stop accessible. 365 days a year."
