The Uckermark: a place for dreaming

Lovely hilly country, tranquil villages and small towns, picture-perfect hiking trails through quiet forest regions - the Uckermark has a lot to offer.

The landscape may remind you of Canada's forests, which change color so magically in the fall - yet here we are very close to the German capital. The Uckermark region in northeastern Brandenburg begins only about 80 kilometers from Berlin, and it is about 120 kilometers to Prenzlau, the "capital" of this beautiful region. With barely more than 20,000 inhabitants, the town is picturesquely situated directly on the Unteruckersee lake, and a contemplative stroll through the old center reveals many witnesses to ancient history. But then it's out into nature, on foot, by canoe or by bike.

The sparsely populated Uckermark with its enchanting forests, small lakes and gentle hills is ideal for slowing down, for a few hours, days or even longer. Many a stressed-out city dweller has already settled here with an art studio, a climate-neutral vacation farm or a store for regionally produced goods. It's no wonder that the Uckermark has already been recognized as a particularly sustainable vacation region.  

The special tip: In Prenzlau, it is worth visiting St. Marien: the first hall church in northern Germany and an important brick Gothic building. 

Hop In Hop Off" principle in the Uckermark: Vacationers and day trippers can discover the region with a round trip on the bus: The bus line connects Templin, Prenzlau, Schwedt and Angermünde with each other - pay once, get on and off as you please.
